How do I remove old users form Zoho

I am trying to use Cliq, but I have old contacts that cannot be removed from Zoho showing up in my possible contact list in Cliq. I have tried removing these people but it seems that once someone is in your Zoho platform, you can never really remove them. We are a very small organization and it is annoying. How do larger organizations deal with this?
