IMAP settings and just generally on my Mac Air, Zoho mail is absolutely terrible

Wondering if anyone knows the solution, if there is a solution, to this long standing problem with Zoho Mail and using it through the Mail app on my Mac Air. 

I've had Zoho mail for six months and It basically works when it want to works, the settings are definitely right - IMAP and SMTP - but sometimes there's an IMAP time out and other times it's the SMTP. You can forget trying to send something with an attachment, it will definitely time out. So more and more I have to use the web version. 

I've tried contacting Zoho, given them screengrabs of what it says on my computer, but by the time they respond days later, then the problem has resolved itself, I forget about it, then it turns up again a week later. 

It's really frustrating as it also freezes my mail app sometimes, and then - God only knows how or why - after a sustained period of freezing the mail app or the IMAP timing out, then all my mail disappears. My Inbox, as if its new emails, will come back in a couple of days later when the IMAP seems to be working again.

I've had my Mac tested twice by the Apple shop to make sure that it's not the Mac, and even had the Mac wiped clean. It cannot be a problem with the Mac. The Apple guys reckon if you have a problem then it's with the compatibility of the Mac's Mail app and the provider you use, in this case, Zoho.

It's very annoying and means I'm going to have to change provider to someone like Godaddy unless I can resolve it.
