Please clarify how domain is validated (CNAME)

Please clarify how domain is validated (CNAME)

I consider myself 'tech-savvy' but not an IT person. Through some trial and error (and luck!) I was able to validate my domain - purchased and registered at GoDaddy.com.

I'm writing this post in case other users find the 'domain validation' instructions a bit confusing - and I'd like to confirm for my own knowledge.

I used the CNAME method because I found the HTML non-intuitive (from your site I don't know how to create an HTML file OR upload it to to the specific URL).

For the CNAME method I went to the GoDaddy 'DNS Manage' site and created 2 CNAME records: i) one with the unique 8-digit alphanumeric code supplied by Zoho AND ii) one using same 8-digit Zoho code plus 'zb' added to code as a prefix.

I don't know which code i) or ii) above actually allowed the validation to occur. Please confirm.

Feedback: I personally feel the 'domain verify/validate' instructions need to be simpler and consistent references made throughout to encourage wider-scale adoption - since no real 'business' user of the Zoho platform can occur until the domain is validated. Thanks!
