Please improve Zoho Mail with an external server

The process to configure Zoho Mail with a 3rd party email server is very bad.

So, my company has its own email server and changing it to Zoho is completely out of consideration. But we want to use Zoho Mail for its features and integrations, particularly Calendar. I don't think this can be an uncommon situation: most companies have websites, and most hostings include email.

Say my email is david@mycompany.com. This email has a Zoho user. The steps to set Zoho Mail to read this IMAP email as primary are the following:
  1. As Zoho One admin, I add a false email account to the user: FALSEdavid@mycompany.com
  2. Then I delete the real email from the user, in Zoho One.
  3. I login into Zoho Mail as FALSEdavid@mycompany.com
  4. I add a secondary email account in Zoho Mail for david@mycompany.com
  5. Again as Zoho One admin, I add and change the user's primary email back to david@mycompany.com 
  6. Finally, in Zoho One I delete the false email.
All this mess with false email accounts because, I was told, Zoho Mail can't add an IMAP account with the same address that the user's primary email.

This is a hacky, error prone and convoluted process. Again, I don't think that "primary email in external IMAP" can be a weird corner case for Zoho Mail to support properly. Please consider adding this feature.
