baseline to baseline spacing should default to 1.2 times the point size. You seem to be printing 10 pt type, for instancce, with 10 pt 'leading' from one baseline to the next. The result is that descenders from one line interfere with ascenders from the next. Study some typography if you don't know what I mean.
