Searching

Not getting a working answer to my previous question, I'll ask it in a different way.

Is there a way to search for the first letter in a column and get it, plus all that follow ?

In other words, how can I search for all the "F"'s in a last name field and get all the last names that begin with an "F". A simple search for just that letter ends up with any name with an "f" anywhere within it. Not just at the beginning.
