Sending emails from Zoho desk, what are the options?

I thought Zoho Desk could simply have SPF records added and then get emails sent out as mydomain name as zoho would send emails on behalf of my domain. I was recently told that i can only achieve that using SMTP, meaning that zoho desk would need to have a dedicated mailbox with a license so it can connect via SMTP.
I use other applications from other vendors that can send emails on behalf of my domain, I just add SPF records adding their domains and then it works. Can't any Zoho product do the same?
If I use SMTP to send emails out, would I still need to use the address@company.zohodesk.eu as the address all emails need to be forwarded or will zoho desk access emails via IMAP going forward?
