Syncing CRM to Campaigns - How do I preload Topic Association?

Now that Zoho has Topic Management, I'm trying to figure out the best workflow for moving CRM Leads into Campaigns. If I just leave the sync as is, then the CRM leads go into my Campaigns without any topics associated with them. Therefore, none of emails go to them. I don't want to have to go into Campaigns to manually assign topics, because it defeats the purpose of syncing.

Is there a field I can put in the CRM Lead that Campaigns can read and assign topics based on?

Use case - I want to be able to:
  1. Meet someone and ask them if I can add them to my email list
  2. Add them to my CRM
  3. Update a field in the CRM Lead record where I can enter the proper topics
  4. Have Campaigns Sync do the rest so that user starts getting the appropriate email immediately
Any ideas on how to do this or achieve the same ends another way?
