Extension: Send reply to customer, with attachment

Is there an API call available for extensions to send a reply to the customer with an attachment attached?

We have created an extension that generates an RMA sheet based on custom fields from the ticket and makes a PDF file out of it. It would be great if with one click on the button this would be sent to the customer.
