Having products in different versions with life cycle - field dependencies

Hi.

My use case is we are having different products having different versioning scheme. So while one product is in version 10 the other is still in version 3. I want to set up field dependencies. So if an agent in a ticket chose from the product field (of type look up, as I used the zoho product module to define our products) the picklist field to chose the version in use should be prefiltered to the versions only which exist for this certain product.
Tried with field dependencies, but those do not allow a look up as parent field. Any workaround for this?

Further every version released has a life cycle and end of support. So for each version of a product I would like to define this support stop as date and if an agent chose a product version which is already out of life cycle he should get notified. 
how to do this best?
