is there any way of creating an event in a group calendar so all members can see it without sending out invites

Everytime someone creates an event in a group calendar an invitation to attend is sent. Sometimes the events created are just information. ie on this date, this is supposed to happen. Nobody needs to attend anything it is just so everyone is aware and can see it in their calendar. Is there any way of creating an event in a group calendar without asking people if they are going to attend or not?
