Prevent accidental duplicate entry of Customer Ordersome

Zoho Support has confirmed that Zoho currently does not have any method (using Deluge, flow or any other method) to alert a user when a sales order has been entered twice using the same customer reference number (i.e. a duplicate).

Most ERP platforms prevent this, or at least provide some alert that you already have a Sales Order with this customer reference, but Zoho does not appear to have thought of this.  Has anybody worked out a way of detecting a duplicate entry?  

Zoho - here's an idea - show a message box if the entered sales order customer reference number is the same as an existing order.  

Why is this beneficial?  Well, it prevents customers from making a mistake and entering a sales order from a customer twice, along with the associated shipping and return charges, or in some cases the items are make-to-order so you end up with a custom item that can not be sold to someone else!
