The problem, every model has a standard layout, which is what we use most of the time...

But as the business grows and evolves we may have to create new layouts that become the new standard.

Thing is the new layout can never become the standard layout (even if it can become the preferred layout). 

Some of ZOHO's own integrations (creator, sign, flow) don't have a layout selector. So you may find that some field you need to have such integration work needs to be added to the standard layout which adds a lot of maintenance burden.

This is even a problem with CANVAS views and the CRM portals, it's painful and there should be a way to have a one clic promotion to standard layout...
