Triggering emails from contract expiration dates under SLAs

Is it possible to set up a rule that triggers an automated email to contacts within an account when a contract expires? 

Right now I have an alert set up to support@ then they need to set up a ticket with an email template, but it'd be great if we could skip support all together. So, it could be that the contact directly receives an email and an alert is sent to the people selected in the automation rules.
