Tip 42: Create multiple layouts for projects

Every project you create has a unique strategy, goals, and functional requirements. To keep your projects on track, it is important to plan your project by defining the scope and requirements, specifying the deliverables, and setting deadlines. In order to do so, project layouts are extremely helpful in establishing your project plans and in capturing specific project details. With Zoho Projects, you can create multiple layouts to capture the unique details of every project.

You can create project layouts by customizing fields and grouping them in various sections. For example, the product manager at Zylker Inc creates different project layouts for Web Development, Mobile App Development, ERP Phase-1, ERP Phase-2 etc. The layouts are customized with corresponding sections and fields.

  • You can apply the layout when you create or edit a project. You can create up to 30 layouts and apply them to suitable projects.
  • You can select the user profiles that can access the layout.
  • You can clone an existing layout. For instance, if you want to create a new layout for Web Development using the same layout as in Mobile App Development, you can clone the Mobile App Development layout and create a new one by adding more sections and fields that are required for web development.
  • You can replace the current layout with a new layout when you edit a project. For example, you can change the project layout from ERP Phase-1 to ERP Phase-2. However, only the common fields available in ERP Phase-1 and ERP Phase-2 layouts will be retained. The other fields which are not common to both the layouts will not be available and their data will be lost.
