Tips and Tricks #22: Set permissions for external sharing

Hello everyone!

We hope you're finding our WorkDrive Tips and Tricks series helpful.

Maintaining data confidentiality is crucial for any organization. Restricting data access and setting permissions on who can share files help protect your sensitive information from theft or unauthorized disclosure.

In today's post, we'll show you how you can restrict external sharing for all users on your team.

Allow or disallow external sharing

To ensure that no business data is shared with anyone outside the organization, you can disable the external sharing option for all users in your WorkDrive account.

You can find this option in the Sharing tab, under Settings in the Admin Console.

By disabling the Allow files and folders to be shared outside this team option, you can prevent users from sharing files and folders externally through emails, download links, embed codes, and external share links (including both custom external share links and permalinks with visibility to anyone on the web).

When the option is enabled, Team Folder Admins and Organizers can share files and folders outside the organization for collaboration. You can customize external sharing for individual Team Folders as well.

Note: You can disable sharing under the Team Folder's Settings or the Admin Console Settings to stop users from sharing data from the organization's Team Folder. If you want to restrict sharing of your users' personal files, you can disable external sharing for MyFolders.
