Released for all DCs.
Hello everyone,
We've introduced ad-hoc approvals in CRM approval processes. This enhancement lets approvers add additional approvers when needed, without changing the configured approval workflow.
How the approval process works
Admins can configure approval processes that trigger when records are created or edited. They can:
Define when the process should trigger.
Set rules to determine which records enter the process.
Add approvers and configure the approval flow (anyone/everyone, sequential/parallel).
Before this enhancement, once a record entered the approval process, approvers could:
What was missing
The standard approval flow covers most scenarios, but some cases need a bit more flexibility. Say a request needs input from someone with specific expertise, like legal or finance. Previously, involving these additional stakeholders meant modifying the approval process or coordinating approvals outside CRM.
That's exactly what ad-hoc approvals are here to solve.
Introducing ad-hoc approvals
Approvers now have a new action—Add Approver—that enables them to request input from an additional approver before continuing with the approval process.

The original approver remains responsible for the final approval decision. However, their approval actions are temporarily unavailable until the added approver responds.

How it works
The record remains in "Awaiting additional approver response" status
The timeline, audit log, and approval history are updated automatically.
The added approver receives a notification, with the original approver copied (CC) on the email.
Notes:
Users cannot add themselves as approvers.
Ad-hoc approvers can delegate approvals, but can't add further approvers.
If the same user is part of multiple stages, they must approve separately.
Approvers can also add approvers from the My Jobs module. This option is currently available only for individual records, not bulk actions.
Ad-hoc approvals make approval workflows more flexible by allowing approvers to involve additional stakeholders whenever needed, without redesigning the approval process.
