Tips and Tricks #29: Two ways to insert hyperlinks effectively in Show

Hi everyone!

We're back with another tips and tricks post for you all. In case you missed our previous post in the Tips and Tricks series, you can find them here

Did you ever want to hyperlink a text or an object in your slides? Well, this can be done easily in Show.

When you share or embed presentations on the web, hyperlinks help readers jump to different pages or specific slides, or even write to email addresses.

For instance, you can hyperlink all related articles in your slide deck to their corresponding web pages for a detailed explanation. This way, you can add references within slides to provide information in a more readable manner.

In addition, hyperlinks allow you to switch between slides easily. Let's say you're delivering a presentation to your team. You have the Dashboard as your main deck containing topics to be discussed. This is followed by "Fundamentals" and other subsequent slides.

Since your colleagues are already familiar with the basics you want to skip the "Fundamentals" and switch to the next slide. This is possible using hyperlinks. Insert similar objects in the Dashboard and enter topics in them. You can now link those objects to their respective decks in the presentation. This helps you switch to any slide from the Dashboard.

How to hyperlink text and objects such as Shape, Image, and more in Show.

  • Ensure the document or the email address you want to link to is valid and accessible to the audience
  • Use keys to show hyperlinks since they work only in the slideshow mode (Alt+S for Windows and Option+S for Mac)
  • Ensure you enter URL's without any gaps to avoid broken links
Let's now take a closer look at how you can incorporate these hyperlinks effectively in Show.

Hyperlinking text:

Providing detailed information in a presentation can be challenging. Instead, you can add links to direct readers to to supplemental web pages.

For instance, let's say you want to share more information with your audience. In such cases, you can insert hyperlinks like "Click here to read more" and link it to the related page.

Text hyperlinks appear underlined and blue in color. When clicked, they become a followed hyperlink and turn purple in color. You can also customize their colors any time in Show. Here's how:

  1. Open the required slide with the text to be hyperlinked.
  2. Select the text and click Add Link to open the hyperlink pop-up window.
  3. Enter details in the window and click OK to enable the hyperlink.
  4. Right-click the text hyperlink and select Open Hyperlink to test the link.

Hyperlinking objects:

You can hyperlink objects such as Shapes and Images in your presentation, making them act as clearly visible buttons. Their self-explanatory nature allows easy access to other decks in the presentation.

For instance, if you want to explain the first few slides in your presentation and then return to the Dashboard, you can use object hyperlinks such as Home action buttons. Add the button at the bottom of the deck and link it to your Dashboard. Click the button to return to the Dashboard. This way, there's no back and forth movement, avoiding slide repetition.

You can also connect object hyperlinks to web pages and email addresses. Here's how you can employ object hyperlinks in Show:

  1. Open the required slide with the object to be hyperlinked.
  2. Select the object and click Add Link to open the hyperlink pop-up window.
  3. Enter details in the window and click OK to enable the hyperlink.
  4. Right-click the object hyperlink and select Open HyperLink to test the link.

Note: You can hyperlink an entire Table, Chart or Media file using Text in Show. Add a Text on top of these objects and reduce its Transparency to 100%. You can now Add Link to the Text.

You can insert any number of links in your slide using Add Link in Zoho Show. To view a step-by-step guide for adding hyperlinks in decks, click here
