OTP Authenticator - Manage Passphrase | OneAuth

Manage passphrase

What is passphrase?

A phrase similar to a password used for backing up your 2FA accounts. This passphrase will be used to encrypt your 2FA secrets and then these secrets will be stored in your Zoho Cloud. When you want to restore your 2FA accounts to a new device, you will be asked to enter this passphrase. The reason for this encryption is to make sure that your 2FA secrets are stored securely and not accessed by anyone (including Zoho). You should note that only the encrypted 2FA secrets will be stored by Zoho and not the passphrase. If you forget the passphrase, you will not be able to restore your 2FA accounts. Passphrase can also be used to recover your OneAuth account if you lose access to it.

How to set passphrase?

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Recovery, then tap Edit under Passphrase.
  3. Enter a passphrase under Set passphrase, then tap Next.
  4. Re-enter the passphrase under Confirm passphrase, then tap Confirm.

How to change passphrase?

To change passphrase:
  1. Open OneAuth on your mobile device.
  2. Go to the Settings tab, then tap Recovery.
  3. Tap Edit below the passphrase.
  4. Enter your current passphrase in the Confirm Passphrase pop-up.
  5. Tap CONFIRM.
  6. Enter a new passphrase under Set passphrase, then tap Next.
  7. Re-enter the passphrase under Confirm passphrase, then tap Confirm.

How to reset passphrase?

Important note:
For security reasons, when you reset your passphrase:
  1. All the previously backed up 2FA accounts will be deleted from Zoho Cloud. They will not be deleted from the device you're currently using to reset the passphrase.
  2. The current 2FA accounts present in the device on which you reset the passphrase will be backed up fresh to Zoho Cloud.
Make sure you reset your passphrase from the device which has all the required 2FA accounts, because only the 2FA accounts present on that device will be backed up and the rest present on other devices will be deleted permanently.

To reset passphrase:
  1. Open OneAuth on your mobile device.
  2. Go to the Settings tab, then tap Recovery.
  3. Tap Forgot Passphrase? in the Confirm Passphrase pop-up.
  4. On the Forgot Passphrase? pop-up, tap RESET.
  5. Enter a new passphrase under Set passphrase, then tap Next.
  6. Re-enter the new passphrase under Confirm passphrase, then tap Backup.
