Troubleshooting tips for integrating Gmail account via IMAP

While configuring Gmail in Bigin using the IMAP Protocol, you might encounter the following error: 'Looks like the entered password is wrong or 'Allow less secured app access' is turned off in your Gmail account'.

In that case, ensure that you do the following to integrate your Gmail account with Bigin successfully.
  1. Make sure the password that you have entered is correct.
  2. If you have enabled two-factor authentication in Gmail, generate an app specific password and enter it while configuring your Gmail account in Bigin. Read MoreGenerate App Specific password for Gmail
  3. Check if you have received an email stating that the Sign-in attempt was blocked. If so, Click Check Activity, verify the information and click Yes, it was me.
  4. Check if IMAP access is enabled in your Gmail account settings.
    1. To enable
      1. Click the Gear iconSettings in your Gmail account.

      2. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
      3. In the IMAP Access section, click Enable IMAP.
      4. Click Save Changes.
  5. Check if you have enabled the Less secure app access.
    1. To enable
      1. Go to https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps.
Alternatively, you can also go to Security > Less secure app access from your google account.

      2. Toggle On the Allow less secure apps option.

Once turned On, you may have received a security email.
      3. Open the email and click Check Activity.

      4. Verify the information and click Yes, it was me.

For G-suite users, sign in using an administrator account.
Go to Security > Less secure appsAllow users to manage their access to less secure apps.

  6. If the above steps didn't work, go to https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and click Continue.
