Partner Commissions supports two calculation methods for determining commissionable value:
Line item
Total amount
The calculation method determines whether commissions are calculated using individual products and services within a transaction or the overall transaction value.
Choosing the right method depends on how your organization rewards partner performance.
When you choose Line Item, the commission is calculated separately for each product or service in a transaction.
Each item is evaluated on its own based on its value. The commission is calculated for every individual item, and all those amounts are then added together to get the final commission for the deal.
For example, if a deal includes:
Product A: $10,000
Product B: $5,000
And the commission rate is 10%:
Product A → $1,000
Product B → $500
Total commission = $1,500
This approach works best when a partner’s contribution differs across products, as it allows you to calculate commission more accurately for each item instead of applying one rule to the entire deal.
Line item is best suited for:
Deals with multiple products or services
Scenarios where some offerings carry higher importance
Incentivizing specific products through partners
When you choose Total Amount, the commission is calculated on the entire deal value, not on individual products.
All products or services in a transaction are added together, and the commission is applied once to this total. It does not consider each item separately.
For example, if the total deal value is $15,000 and the commission rate is 10%, the commission will be $1,500.
This method works best when you want to reward partners based on the overall deal, rather than their contribution to each product.
Total amount is best suited for:
Revenue-focused incentives
Deals where all items are treated equally
Simpler commission setups
Line item | Total amount |
Product-level evaluation | Deal-level evaluation |
More flexible | Simpler |
Rewards specific contributions | Rewards overall deal value |
Choose based on how partner contribution is recognized in your business:
Choose line item if partners influence specific parts of a deal.
Choose total amount if partners are responsible for the entire deal.
