FAQs: Working with My Area in Help Center

Understanding My Area

What is My Area in the Help Center?
My Area is a signed-in customer workspace for managing support tickets in one place. It brings together current and past requests so customers can review ticket status, history, replies, and related activity without needing to contact support for an update.
Customers can use My Area to:
  1. View active and previous tickets
  2. Submit new tickets
  3. Reply to tickets
  4. Edit ticket details
  5. Add or edit comments
  6. Close, reopen, and print tickets
  7. Find older tickets from different channels and community interactions for reference
For example, a customer who first contacted support through chat and later submitted an email request can use My Area to locate ticket records from both interactions, provided the chat was converted into a ticket.
Is My Area the same as the agent interface?
No, The Help Center has separate experiences for agents and customers:
  1. Agent interface: Used by support staff to respond to tickets and community posts and to manage Knowledge Base content. Agents who sign in with agent credentials are directed to the Desk portal.
  2. Customer interface: Used by customers to browse articles, engage with community content, submit requests, and manage their own tickets through My Area.
A customer should sign in through the Help Center portal. An agent should use agent credentials and work from the Desk portal rather than treating My Area as their primary support workspace.
Who can access My Area?
Customers can use My Area after signing in to the Help Center. On the administrative side, users with the Support Administrator or Agent permission profile can access the feature.

Customers may be able to submit a ticket to a Help Center they can access without registering. However, they must sign in to perform account-based actions such as editing, closing, or reopening a ticket.

Access and Sign-In

Can a customer submit a ticket without signing in?
Yes, when the Help Center allows it. A customer can submit a request through a Help Center portal they can access without signing up.

However, unauthenticated users cannot use My Area to manage that request. To edit the ticket, close it, reopen it, or otherwise manage it after submission, the customer must sign in.
Can sign-in be required before a customer submits the first ticket?
Yes. Administrators can require authentication before ticket submission by enabling the relevant Help Center access setting:
  1. Navigate to Setup > Channels > Help Center > Access Settings.
  2. Enable Customers must sign in to your Help Center to submit Tickets.
This is appropriate when every request must be associated with an authenticated Help Center user from the beginning.
How does a customer open My Area?
  1. Sign in to the appropriate Help Center portal using customer login credentials.
  2. Select My Area from the top navigation bar.
The customer can then browse submitted tickets and narrow the list using available filters.

Finding and Reviewing Tickets

Can My Area show tickets created through channels other than the Help Center?
Yes. My Area can display ticket records from multiple channels, communities, and the Zoho Desk account.
If an agent converts a customer chat inquiry into a ticket, that ticket also appears in the relevant department within the Help Center.

This gives customers a more complete support history instead of limiting them to requests submitted from the Help Center ticket form.
How can a customer find an older or specific ticket?
Customers can apply filters to locate tickets based on defined criteria, including priority and channel.

For example, a customer looking for an unresolved chat-related request can filter the ticket list by the relevant channel and status. The resulting list helps isolate the required record instead of manually reviewing every previous ticket.
Can tickets be viewed across departments?
Customers can select the relevant department when working in My Area. When reviewing or responding to ticket activity, use the All Departments selection as needed and then choose the applicable ticket view.

This is especially useful when an organization routes requests to separate departments, such as Billing, Technical Support, and Account Services.

Creating and Updating Tickets

How can a customer create a new ticket from My Area?
  1. Open My Area.
  2. Click Add Ticket.
  3. Select the required department.
  4. Click Submit Ticket.
  5. Select the appropriate ticket layout, if multiple layouts are available.
  6. Complete the required information.
  7. Click Submit.
The layout-selection step appears only when the Tickets module has more than one layout.
Can a customer edit a submitted ticket?
Yes. Signed-in customers can update ticket information from My Area.
  1. Open the required ticket from the My Area home page.
  2. Select Edit next to Ticket Properties.
  3. Make the required changes.
  4. Click Save.
This is useful when ticket details need correction or additional information should be added to the request.
Can customers reply to an existing ticket?
Yes. Customers can open the ticket in My Area and use Reply to send an update or response.

For example, if support asks for additional diagnostic details, the customer can reply directly from the relevant ticket rather than submitting a duplicate request.

Closing and Reopening Tickets

How can a customer close a ticket?
  1. Open the relevant ticket from the My Area home page.
  2. Go to the Ticket Properties section.
  3. Select Close ticket.
The ticket status changes to Closed.

Closing a ticket is appropriate when the customer confirms that the issue has been resolved or no additional support is needed.
Can a closed ticket be reopened?
Yes. A customer can reopen a closed ticket by sending a reply:
  1. Open the closed ticket.
  2. Click Reply in the top bar.
  3. Send the response.
The ticket is immediately reopened, and its status changes to Open.

For example, if an issue appears resolved but returns after a configuration change, the customer can reply on the original ticket to restore the support conversation and preserve its history.
Does adding a comment reopen a closed ticket?
No, Comments do not reopen closed tickets. To reopen a closed ticket, the customer must send a reply. This distinction matters when a customer wants to add contextual information without restarting the support workflow.
Can customers add comments to tickets?
Yes. Customers can select Comment from the top bar of a ticket to leave a comment. Comments can be used for supplementary context or notes. They should not be used when the customer needs the ticket status to chan

Draft Replies

Can customers save a ticket reply and finish it later?
Yes. Customers can save a response as a draft and return to it later.
  1. Go to My Area in the Help Center portal.
  2. Select the relevant department from All Departments.
  3. Under Views, select the required ticket view.
  4. Open the relevant ticket and click Reply.
  5. Write the response.
  6. Click Save Draft.
  7. Return to the draft from My Area when ready to continue.
This is helpful when a customer needs to collect information, obtain approval, or attach final details before sending a complete response.
Can a saved draft be changed or deleted?
Yes. Customers can edit a saved draft to revise its contents before sending it. Drafts that are no longer needed can also be deleted to avoid confusion and unnecessary clutter.

For example, if a customer drafts a response before reproducing an issue, they can update the draft with the final reproduction steps rather than sending incomplete information.

Practical Limitations and Expectations

Can an unsigned-in user edit, close, or reopen a ticket?
No, Although users may be able to submit a ticket without registering, they must sign in before they can edit, close, or reopen it.
Organizations that want every ticket to be managed through an authenticated customer account should require sign-in before ticket submission in Help Center access settings.
Why might a customer not find a chat conversation in My Area?
A chat interaction appears in My Area only when an agent has converted it into a ticket. A chat that was not converted into a ticket is not described as a My Area ticket record.
Can My Area replace all support communication channels?
My Area centralizes ticket management and ticket history, including tickets from supported channels and communities. It does not change the role of the agent interface, which agents use to handle incoming requests, respond to customers, and manage Help Center resources.
