Enroll a device

Prerequisites

Roles required to perform this action:

Organization owner
Organization admin

To enroll a device:

Log in to Zoho Directory.
In the Admin Panel, click Device Management.
Click Get Started.
Follow the steps displayed for downloading and installing Zoho Directory agent according to the type of operating system you use.
To add more devices, click Enroll Device.

Prerequisites for agent installation

Make sure that you have the admin credentials of the device before registering a device.
The device you're attempting to enroll must not be bound by Active Directory.
The device must have any of the supported versions specified on the enrollment page.
For macOS devices, you need admin privileges with secure token access. Also, an Active Directory-bound mobile account must be converted to a local account before installing the agent. Make sure you enable full disk access for the agent to be downloaded. This can only be done through an admin account.
For Linux devices, the package libnotify_bin has to be installed prior to the installation of the Zoho Directory agent. Otherwise due notifications will not appear.
For Windows devices, make sure you install the latest version of Visual Studio Redistributable on the device to be enrolled. You can download it from this site.

Steps for installation

a) For macOS:

Copy the Installation Key and click Download Agent. Once the download is complete, install the agent by following the on-screen prompts.
Extract the downloaded zip file and double click the .pkg, the ZD agent installation window pops up.
In the dialog box that appears, paste the copied installation key.
Grant full disk access to zagent-directory in System settings when prompted.
Once the agent installation is successful, the device will be available and manageable in the Device Management tab of the Admin Panel.

Note: The sole purpose of these requests is to set up a service account. Zoho Directory agent will create a service account on the user's device using appropriate credentials. Because it lacks a home folder, no user can access this account.

b) For Linux:

Switch to the Linux enrollment page. Copy both the Installation Key and Linux agent download script.
Open Terminal or Command Prompt on the device in which you want to install the Linux agent.
Enter the copied Linux agent download script. A message asking for your login password to verify the installation appears. Type in the password.
When prompted, enter the Installation key.
The device is enrolled once the installation is complete. Once the agent installation is successful, the device will be available and manageable in the Device Management tab of the Admin Panel.

For Windows:

Click Download Agent. Once the download is complete, extract the corresponding zip file at its location. Note, if the file extraction is not done properly at the appropriate location, agent installation will end up unsuccessful.
Double-click the One-Windows-Agent.msi file and install the agent by following the on-screen prompts.
The device is enrolled once agent installation is complete. You can find the name of the enrolled device listed in the Device Management tab.

There's no involvement of any installation keys here, unlike the other two platforms mentioned above.
