Deleting a datapoint template
Datapoint templates can be deleted only from the developer application.
All Datapoint operations require necessary permissions. Refer User Profiles document for more details.
Datapoint Template Dependency: If a datapoint template is utilized in configuring alarm rules template or other computational datapoint templates, it becomes a dependency for those elements. You must first remove the corresponding alarm rules template and computational datapoint templates using it. Only then can you delete the instance-specific datapoint.
To delete a datapoint template,
Access the Developer Application.
Select Asset or Devices or Location in the left pane based on the model to which you want to import the datapoint template. For this illustration, a Device is selected.
Select the model name from which the datapoint needs to be deleted. For this illustration, the device model: Home Gateway is considered.
Select Datapoints in the left pane. This will open the datapoints list view.
Hover over the datapoint templated you want to edit and click the ellipsis (...) button that appears. For this example datapoint template: Temperature is selected.
Select Delete from the context menu.
Click Check Dependencies in the Datapoint Template Deletion validation popup.
Click Delete in the Delete Template pop up.
The datapoint template will now be deleted from the model, and the datapoint in the instances based on the model will now be deleted.
Note: Datapoints based on a datapoint template cannot be deleted from an instance (Device, asset, or location). They can be disabled by turning of the datapoint status while editing the datapoint.
