Project Configuration in Zoho Projects

Project Configuration in Zoho Projects - Concept

At a project level, there are various strategies for managing tasks and adjusting the project duration. Due dates and dependencies of a task are some of the common changes you can make to modify the schedule of your project. These changes can be made at a project level, which means each project can have customized settings by default and can override the portal level setting.

Use case

Software development/ IT: You head a project management team, which is currently working on the task "Market Research". The next task would be "Product Development," which can only start if the current task is completed. For this case, you can set an FS (Finish to Start) dependency as default to organize the progress and enable the due date settings to provide flexibility to your team.

Event planner: An event organizing company organizes a birthday party. The decor team has arrived, and they plan to set the tables and chairs. However, before setting them, they need to lay the carpet on the floor. For this case, you can set an SS (Start to Start) dependency.

Construction: The client has requested to finish off the construction activity within April 2024. The house built should be painted before surrendering it to the client. To paint the house, scaffoldings have to be laid. This case, the dependency will be FF (Finish to Finish).

Dependency Setting

There are four common types of task dependencies, and these can be set as the default setting for each of your project. The four types of dependencies are,
  1. Finish-To-Start (FS)
  2. Start-To-Start (SS)
  3. Finish-To-Finish (FF)
  4. Start-To-Finish (SF)

Due Date Setting

The due date of a successor task can either be moved up or extended depending on the predecessor task.
