Filter data in pivot tables based on dates with timeline

What is a timeline?

Timeline allows you to filter data in your pivot tables based on dates quickly. To add a timeline to your spreadsheet, there should be a pivot table with a date range.

How to add a timeline
  1. Right-click the pivot table and select Add Timeline. Alternatively, you can navigate to Data > Pivot Table > Add Timeline from the toolbar.
  2. Select the column name for which you wish to add a timeline and click OK. The timeline will appear.
  3. You can drag and adjust the slider to filter the dates. 

How to filter dates with the timeline
  1. Click the drop-down in the timeline and select how you wish to filter the dates (by years, months, quarters, or days).
  2. Click  to clear the filter or right click on the timeline and select Clear Filter


How to customize the timeline

From the side pane, under the Design tab, you can style the timeline based on color, size, layout, and title. 



How to filter dates from multiple pivot tables with timeline

A single timeline allows you to filter dates from multiple pivot tables simultaneously. For this, the pivot tables must be connected to the timeline. To establish the connection:

Select the pivot tables you wish to connect with the timeline from the side pane.



How to delete a timeline

Right-click on the timeline and select Delete. Alternatively, you can click Remove under the General tab in the side pane.
