Create Custom Variables for URL Parameters

Overview

Define custom variables to capture and store URL parameter values passed into your survey. Use these when the parameter you need is not available in the default dropdown list. Custom variables can store text, email, number, date, or choice values.

How to create custom variables for URL parameters

  1. Go to the Publish tab.
  2. Click Add New Collector.
  3. Under Invites by Other Services, click Create.          
  4. Select the distribution service you want to use to send the survey, then click Continue.
            
  1.  Click Add in the Additional Parameter section.
            
  1. Click Create Custom Variable in the Parameter name dropdown list.
            
  1. The Custom Variables window is displayed. Enter the values for the below fields:
            
    1. Enter a value for the URL Parameter field.

Note: Use the same variable name in the URL when distributing your survey. Learn more about dynamic parameters.
    1. Enter a description for the custom variable in the Label field.
    2. Select the variable type from the Type dropdown list. You can choose between text, email, number, choice or date.
    3. For the Choice type, enter each option separately in the Options field.
                        
  1. If you want to encrypt the answer select the Encrypt answer checkbox.
  2. Once configured, click Save Variable.
