How to control widows and orphans in a document

Overview

In document formatting, widows and orphans refer to single lines of a paragraph that are left stranded at the top or bottom of a page, making the text look awkward and less readable. Zoho Writer offers a Widow/Orphan Control option that ensures at least two lines of a paragraph stay together at the top or bottom of a page. This improves readability and maintains professional document flow. A widow refers to a single line of a paragraph that appears at the top of a page, separated from the rest of the paragraph on the previous page.

Steps

  1. Open your document in Zoho Writer.
  2. Place your cursor inside the paragraph you want to format.
  3. Click Format > More paragraph options...
  4. Under Line & page break, enable the option Widow/Orphan Control.

  1. Remove line breaks from a document
  2. Replace line breaks in a document
