How to control widows and orphans in a document
Overview
In document formatting, widows and orphans refer to single lines of a paragraph that are left stranded at the top or bottom of a page, making the text look awkward and less readable. Zoho Writer offers a Widow/Orphan Control option that ensures at least two lines of a paragraph stay together at the top or bottom of a page. This improves readability and maintains professional document flow. A widow refers to a single line of a paragraph that appears at the top of a page, separated from the rest of the paragraph on the previous page.
Steps
- Open your document in Zoho Writer.
- Place your cursor inside the paragraph you want to format.
- Click Format > More paragraph options...
- Under Line & page break, enable the option Widow/Orphan Control.
