Announcing support for Email Templates and Webhooks - Zoho BugTracker

We are pleased to announce the support for Email Templates and Webhooks in Zoho BugTracker. They allow you to capture and handle real-time events related to bugs in your project efficiently.

                                                   Email Templates

Till date, you haven't been able to customize the structure of notification mails for various actions on bugs. Mails were sent using default templates only. Now, you have the liberty to create your own Email templates. Here, you can freeze your own content and insert placeholders in the Subject and Body of the mail template. Also, map them to different type of actions on bugs in your project.

Map email templates to notification events:
You can map Email templates when the following events occur.

  • When a bug is created
  • When a bug is assigned
  • When a bug is closed
  • When a bug is reopened
  • When a bug’s status is updated
  • When user picklist is associated
  • When a bug is commented
  • When a bug is deleted

Map email templates to SLA:
You can associate an existing Email Template with an SLA or create a new template and then map it to an SLA based on your need.

                                                       Webhooks

Data exchange is more fluid when you use webhooks. Because, your application need not poll the server for new updates on a regular basis.Instead, with webhooks, they can listen for new updates to come their way, and perform necessary actions when they receive the updates from the server.

Say, you have to monitor your Zoho BugTracker tool on a regular basis to check for closed bugs and then trigger a test case automation tool manually. The tool will execute test cases for the closed bugs accordingly. This manual intervention delays the test case automation since it needs continuous monitoring to ensure that no bug has been left unnoticed. This delay can be easily ruled out using Webhooks.

Solution:

  • Create a Business Rule with the following specifications.
    • Select Field Update in the Execute On section.
    • Specify the condition , Bug Status is Closed
  • Create a webhook specifying the test case automation tool's API URL and other attributes.
  • Call the webhook from the business rule section and save the setting.
  • From now on, when a bug is closed, (i.e. when "Bug status" field is updated to "Closed") the information is pushed from Zoho BugTracker to the test case automation tool via a simple HTTP GET / POST method to the callback URL.

This process will in turn trigger the tool as expected.

We are excited to hear back from you about these new features. Feel free to share your thoughts by posting a comment below. Happy Bug tracking!

Kiruthika.

      • Announcing the New Zoho BugTracker

We were frequently asked to have bug tracking as a separate, stand-alone product, decoupled from the rest of Zoho Projects - and to make it even more affordable. So we launched Zoho BugTracker a week before, a standalone product that helps teams fix bugs fast. Here's a quick summary of what's new in this release: : Give a structure to how bugs are handled by defining custom workflows Configure severity for the bugs to indicate how much the bug disrupts users from doing their jobs Build a library
