Check In/Check Out - Workdrive says I can't save because I have it checked out!

Hello,
I have just encouraged my team to start using Workdrive instead of an in-house network server. We have a lot of documents which are updated by multiple people so I thought the Check in/Check out functionality would be perfect to stop the overlap if two people try to make changes at the same time.

However....
When I check out a document,
Click 'Open With...Excel (Desktop)' to edit the file,
and then try to save my changes,

I get a WorkDrive Genie message saying "Cannot upload the file as it has been locked by Emma Verity"...which is me!!

Am I doing something wrong? How else can I edit my checked out file?!?
