Event without invitations

We use a group calendar so people can identify when they're going to be in or out of the office. These aren't events to which people are invited; they're just for information. The other day, everyone was "invited" to join one colleague on a trip to the doctor!

How do we create an event that doesn't invite everyone in the group to join in? An event that doesn't ask everyone if they're going or not?
