There are cases where it would be useful to generate a single external share link which can later have its destination updated. In effect this would be sharing an symbolic link where the link target path can be updated. 

The use case which prompted the idea is sharing software download links which always point to the latest version. Right now that would require keeping a folder for each version plus a "latest release" folder which introduces opportunity for mistakes. It would be nicer to have a folder for each version and update which folder the "latest release" link points to.
