Getting 2 images next to each other on mobile view (with links working)

Need some help please...

Not sure how to do what I need, basically I have a bunch of images each that needs to link to different pages, this is fine in a "normal" website as I can put 4/5 images next to each other using "columns" so 15 images will only take up 3 lines so won't take up much viewing space, however when switching to "mobile" view they each appear under each other which means lots and lots of scrolling to see all the images to find the one to "click" which is impractical for my needs.

Using the gallery option is great as it will put 2 images next to each other and they appear smaller so you get a 4 rather than 1 image on a mobile screen, the problem with gallery however is I can't add links to the images.

Any other suggestions?  Or is there a way to add links to gallery images or force multiple pictures next to each other on a mobile screen?
