Google's Announcement on Deprecation of Less Secure Apps
Google has announced the Deprecation of Less Secure Apps (LSAs/Basic authentication) in Google accounts, requesting all app users to transition to OAuth for enhanced security and to prevent hacking of accounts and information.
What does this mean for Zoho Desk?
Zoho Desk's primary support channel, Email, includes users who rely on Google mail services. Many have configured Gmail in the Email From Address settings. Since Google is deprecating Less Secure Apps services by Fall 2024, we want to inform our users that email configurations using basic authentication (LSA) will become obsolete.
How can we address this?
Users can enable 2-Step Verification to configure support email addresses aligned with Google, allowing sign-in with app passwords. This provides advanced protection and keeps accounts secure.
How to configure your Email with Google's App Password?
1. Sign in to your Google account.
2. Go to Security > Turn on 2-Step Verification.
4. Click on Create.
5. A password will be generated and displayed on your screen.
6. Paste the 16-character password into your Email-From Address configuration and click on Update.
Now you will see the Zoho Desk app listed under your App passwords. You are now set to use your Google Mail services in your Zoho Desk E-mail configuration.
While you have this working, we'd like to inform you we're currently awaiting Google's approval for the OAuth settings we've implemented to streamline your Email configuration for Google services.
We hope to return with good news soon, making things easier and reducing your wait time. In the meantime, if you need any assistance, please feel free to reach out to us at support@zohodesk.com.
Looking forward to connecting with you soon.
Regards,
Lydia Kiruba | Zoho Desk
Note: The App passwords cannot be configured for the group mailbox, as it is a mailing list and not an actual mail box.
