Happy SysAdmin Day, 2022

Happy SysAdmin Day, 2022

The System Administrator Appreciation Day is celebrated on the last Friday of July every year. A day to celebrate and thank the under-appreciated system administrators for the service they provide and their hard work. All the technical issues and user-generated IT mess are fixed and cleaned up by system administrators. They keep an eye on the organizations' computer systems and ensure they are functioning smoothly to meet the needs of the organization. System administrators are also known as "SysAdmins".

Many technical issues take place in the organization's computer systems, but SysAdmins fix them before you even notice. When you start your work, your network is secured and the machine runs smoothly. Do you know how? Because you've got a SysAdmin working behind the scene to make sure you can do your work.

SysAdmins frequently need to interact with end users through ticketing systems and respond with relevant changes and solutions for the issues. You may also refer to your organization's "SysAdmin help guides" before you raise a ticket for minor issues. Let's have a look at the issues that we can fix by ourselves rather than contacting the SysAdmins, and give them a break.

1. Unable to print: Before contacting the SysAdmin, check whether your system is connected to the organization's printer. You can also check and refer to your organization's printer configuration guides and try connecting your device with the printer by following those steps.

2. Connecting to VPN: Using a VPN, remote employees can access internal applications and create a single shared network between multiple office locations.  If there is trouble connecting to the VPN, you can go through the VPN troubleshooting guides of your organization and figure out what went wrong. If you are unable to resolve the issue by yourself, then you can contact the SysAdmin.

3. Resetting password: Password management is a set of guidelines to keep passwords secure. The organization might require you to change your password on a timely basis for security purposes. You can change your passwords once you get an email from the SysAdmin team. If you don't change them, you will get locked out of your system. In such cases, you can get help from the SysAdmin.

Aside from these issues, there are also huge technical issues SysAdmins have to fix. When in technical difficulties, SysAdmins come to help and rescue our systems. But SysAdmins often remain unnoticed and underappreciated. This SysAdmin Day, let us acknowledge the work of SysAdmins and pay tribute to their hard work. Let us take a moment to reach out and say thank you.

Happy SysAdmin Day!
