I get a syntax error in IE8 with an embedded calendar

I get a syntax error in IE8 with an embedded calendar

I have embedded a calendar within my website but have been getting a syntax error using IE8.  It shows the calendar but doesn't show the appointments.  I have included the syntax error report that IE provides.  Is there a setting that I am missing, or is it how IE parses the code?  I can see the appointments within Firefox with no problem.
