Introducing Multiple Selection, Quick Seek and more in Writer

We are continuously improving Writer to give you the best writing experience ever on a Word Processor. Starting from today, we will be launching some very important update bundles for Writer, each baked with some really cool capabilities aimed at solving common problems.

Here's a list of all the things we are launching today:

I. Multiple Selection using Ctrl or ⌘ key

Writer becomes the first Online Word Processor to let you select multiple objects across your document. It works effortlessly with text, paragraphs, tables or even shapes. Even better, you can also deselect objects the same way.

II. Introducing Quick Seek

With the new 'Quick Seek'  feature, you can easily view and navigate where a particular set of selection has appeared across the document. Here's how it does that:

III. Improved Table-Selection

Working with really long tables? Ever wanted to select/deselect a single cell, row or column rather than the entire table? The new  table selection and navigation improvements give you just that. We have included handy  mouse click shortcuts to help you select different parts of your document.

Also, we have redesigned our table architecture so that you can resize  it both horizontally as well as vertically, without any constraints.

Some handy shortcuts to use table-selection:

Alternatively, you can also navigate to the start/end of your table with these shortcuts:

Move to table start:  Cmd+Alt+Shift+J | Move to table end:  Cmd+Alt+Shift+K

IV. Stronger Bullets

Writer now lets you select, format and also add a prefix and/or suffix to your lists. Here's a quick look:

Some of our other important improvements in this update:

  • Copy/Paste operations are now up to  3x faster.
  • You can now enable Ruler in all three modes - Compose, Review as well as Distribute.
    • Go to  Settings > UI Preferences and Select 'Show Ruler in all modes'  to enable this.
  • Easily increase/decrease font sizes in the whole document at once with ' relative font size changer'.
    • Select your text and click on    or    icon to enable this.

Here's a quick video summarizing all the updates:
