New in Zoho Sheet - Format Painter, Vertical Merge, Goal Seek and more
We are glad to introduce the following new features in Zoho Sheet.
- Format Painter
- Merge cells vertically
- Goal Seek
- Chart enhancements
.. and more
Here is a slideshow with screenshots. You can learn more about these features below this presentation.
- Format Painter:
Format painter is used to copy formats and styles of one or more cells and apply them to other cells. This helps you in formatting your spreadsheet the way you want in no time.
To apply the format of the selected cells on to another range, click on the 'Format Painter' icon to copy the format of the selected cells. The cursor will change to . Now select a cell from where you want to apply the copied format. If you want to copy the format to a bigger or smaller range, you can select the target range after clicking on the 'Format Painter' icon. If the target range is bigger, it will automatically tile/repeat the format copied.
If you want to apply a format on multiple ranges, then the easiest way to do is to first select the source range from where you want to copy the format and then double click on the 'Format Painter' icon. You can then apply the format on the desired ranges one by one. To turn off format painter, you can either press the Escape key or click on the Format Painter icon again.
- Vertical Merge:
Merge cells across (horizontal merge) was already in place for a long time. With this release, you can now merge cells down (vertical merge) as well. This helps you in formatting your spreadsheets the way you want.
Use the 'Merge Cells' icon available on the toolbar to merge the selected cells. You also have other options available in the drop down menu next to this icon as depicted by the image to the right.
- Goal Seek:
Goal Seek is used to find the exact input value which will generate the desired result of a formula. For example, let us say you have 2 input fields - Product Price and Units Sold. And there is a formula in the spreadsheet: Sales = Product Price x Units Sold. Assume the Product Price is constant. If you want to find out how many units to sell in order to achieve a sales revenue of 1 million dollars, you can use the Goal Seek functionality. Goal Seek is available under the 'More' menu.
- Chart Enhancements:
You can now set the first row/column as labels. This is very useful in cases where the first row/column is of number type and you want that row/column on the x-axis/y-axis. You also have the provision to set the legend postion or to turn it off. Other improvements include increasing the default chart size, modifying the colors, fonts, laying out the x-axis units at an angle when there are many data points, etc.
- Other Enhancements:
Horizontal scrolling on the Mac OS using the Apple Trackpad or the Apple Mouse is now supported.
We have added a new keyboard shortcut to help you quickly insert new rows/columns. To insert a new row or column on Firefox/Safari/Chrome browsers, select the row(s) / column(s) before which you need to insert and use the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Plus. On Internet Explorer, the corresponding shortcut is Ctrl+Alt+Plus. Currently there is no shortcut for this on Mac OS. View the full list of Keyboard Shortcuts here.
Do try out these new features and let us know your feedback.
