Search Options in Writer

Folks,

Well, you guessed it right! Its time again for another Zoho Writer's tip of the day. Today we are focusing on the different search options available in Writer. Although we haven't categorized each of them as such, the functionality of each of them pretty much sums up the category. There are 3 search options for documents available in Writer:

# Global Search - Search for a text/keyword/content from all the documents in Writer

# Document specific Search - Search for a similar word in a particular document

# Find and Replace - Search for a particular keyword/phrase in a document and replace it with another.

Global Search - Users looking for an occurrence of a specific text/keyword/content in the entire list of documents in Writer would like to try this. The search box is available at the top of the editor. Enter the keyword you are looking in the text box and press enter. Users will get a list of documents in the editor that contains the particular keyword. Click on a specific document to explore further.

Document specific Search - There is a small lens like button present at the bottom left on the status bar of Writer Editor. Users looking for a specific keyword in a particular document can make use of this feature by opening the document in the editor, clicking on the lens button, entering the keyword in the resultant textbox and pressing "Find". Users can click further to check for multiple instances of the same keyword in the document.

Find and Replace - Users can automatically find a word or phrase in a document and replace it with another. For example, they can replace "aka" with "also known as". Please follow the steps for find & replace as mentioned below:

a. Click on the "Find & Replace" button present on the 3rd row of the editor toolbar just to the left of "Spell-check" button.

b. A pop-up will appear on the writer editor with a couple of text fields.

c. In the Find what box, type the text that you want to search for.

d. In the Replace with box, type the replacement text.

e. Do one of the following:

# To find the next occurrence of the text, click Find Next.
# To replace an occurrence of the text, click Replace. After you click Replace, Writer moves to the next occurrence of the text.
# To replace all occurrences of the text, click Replace All.

There's also a "Match Case" check box, which on enabling will match the capitalization(lower or upper) along with the keyword. You can also choose the direction (Up/Down) when searching for a keyword in a document.

Do refer to the attached images for details.

Thanks,
Ahmed
