Tip of the week 41- Effective email list segmentation: The basics

Email list segmentation is to help email marketers realize that all contacts are unique, each of them having their own interests and preferences. Once you've identified the target market, you've laid a solid foundation for your email marketing strategies—email opens, click-through and conversions.

In Zoho Campaigns, creating sub-sets for your list of contacts is done with the help of standard and bulk segmentation. With bulk segmentation, long and bulky lists are easily segmented. All you have to do is, provide the field name that has to be segmented and you will automatically have the number of possible segments. These will help you target your contacts to analyze their behavior closely and decide on future email campaigns.

You can segment your list of contacts based on the data you collect from them. Here are a few fields you can consider while segmenting contacts:

1. Geography: Location based email marketing is one of the personalized email marketing methods that helps you target contacts based on their geographical location. This enhances the click and open-rate thereby improving engagement with them.

2. Demography: Send relevant emails to your contacts based on their gender, age, etc. This will help you to target your contacts based on their tastes and preferences thereby improving your email deliverability.

3. Industry: The industry type of your contacts will help you understand their needs and send out email campaigns which will get you more open rates. This will improve the health of your future email campaigns.

4. Behavior and buying pattern: The history of your contacts' purchases can be used to target them further via future email campaigns. This will help you to optimize customer experience and qualify them as your genuine set of contacts.

Campaign activity, contact scoring, consent to marketing newsletters, last active time and many more follows the field names' list above. The more you engage with your contacts, the more will be the conversion rates. These approaches will help you have a direct conversation with your contacts improving your engagement with them and maximizing your ROI.

      • Tip of the week 15 - Add subscription-preferences option. Drive more engagement.

If crafting content for emails, getting creatives done, and running email campaigns is your love, then unsubscribes are the heartbreakers.  You can save your emails from being unsubscribed/trashed by adding a proper subscription-preferences option in your emails (works best at the time of signup). Giving subscribers the option to choose what they want to receive from you and decide how often (frequency of the emails) your emails should hit their inboxes will increase the reach of your campaigns manifolds.
