Streamlining the file attachment functionality on SalesIQ

Dear SalesIQ users,

We're introducing a new update to the file attachment feature of SalesIQ live chat, which is not only in response to the valuable feedback from our customers but also aimed at enhancing the overall security of your data.

What's New?

Previously, users (operators and website visitors) could share files of any type without restrictions on the SalesIQ live chat. However, to ensure that harmful files are restricted from being shared, we've now implemented a new functionality that only allows the sharing of whitelisted extensions and restricts specific content types that are blacklisted. This means that certain files will be disallowed for sharing, ensuring a more secure and seamless experience for everyone, both on the visitor and operator sides.

Here's how it works:

  • Whitelisted extensions: These are the file types that are safe for sharing. You can attach them to your messages as usual without any issues.
  • Blacklisted Content Types: These are the file types that are not allowed for sharing. Our systems will restrict these files to prevent any potential risks or damage to your data.
  • Exceptions: If a blacklisted content type falls within whitelisted extensions, it will still be prohibited from sharing.
For more clarity, let's consider some examples to understand how our whitelist, blacklist, and exceptions system operates.
  • Consider the case of the 'adts' extension, which is supported. However, if the content type within the file is blacklisted, an error will occur indicating that the 'File content type is not supported.'
  • In situations where the file extension is not on the whitelist, you'll encounter an error message stating, 'File format not supported.' For instance, a '.svg' file isn't whitelisted for uploading. Even if you change the extension to '.jpeg,' it still can't be uploaded because its content type ('image/svg+xml') remains blacklisted.

Please refer to this sheet for the complete list of the whitelisted extensions & blacklisted content types.
Note: In case of custom requirements for allowing any of the above mentioned blacklisted content types, please write to us at <support@zohosalesiq.com>.
We understand that the security and integrity of your data are non-negotiable, and this new functionality is a step that adds to that goal. Feel free to write to us in case of any clarifications, and stay tuned for more such feature updates.

Have a great day!

Best regards,
Hameetha
