Zoho does not have a good way of handling complex billing for professional service firms like engineering, IT or legal. The PSA functions I outline would also be useful in Service Desk Plus MSP. The settings in books, desk and projects all do some form of time billing but it really misses the mark when tracking service based projects.
Look at billing contracts, projects, retainers draw downs from retainers etc. Needs to be far more sophisitacted. I know zoho's answer is that you can customise, but there are so many professional service firms, engineering companies, tech firms etc that avoid zoho because this is not well delivered. I would love to share some examples, look at the agreement management in ConnectWise Manage or in Accelo. Anyway, this as a new product would really be a game changer
- Needs to be able to handle different rate for different technicians that draw down from the client budget which can be set in either hours or dollars.
- Needs to allow for loading rates such as weekends, overtime, onsite etc.
- Have automatic credit card billing so the retainer is captured in advance and the services draw down from the prepaid amount.
- Carry over budgets to allow unused balance to carry over to a selectable number of periods such as 3 months or 6 months.
- Allow a certain level of budget overrun so that end of month is not arguing down to the minute but rather the relationship carries on in perpetuity.
