Enhancements for Currencies in Zoho CRM: Automatic exchange rate updates, options to update record exchange rates, and more

The multi-currency feature helps you track currencies region-wise. This can apply to Sales, CTC, or any other currency-related data. You can record amounts in a customer’s local currency, while the CRM automatically converts them to your home currency for analytics, reports, and other standard features.

Until now, exchange rates were entered manually. Admins updated them on a schedule, and each record retained the rate from the day it was created. As markets moved, those record-level rates stayed the same while the actual exchange rate changed. Over time, this caused report and analytics data to drift from reality.

With the latest enhancements, you can choose to update exchange rates for currencies automatically, and much more. Let's take a look at them one by one.

What this update offers

1. Automatic exchange rate update for currencies
Choose Automatic or Manual exchange rate update type for each currency.

  • Automatic: The latest option where CRM will automatically update the exchange rate using the data from Open Exchange Rates.
  • Manual: The traditional way of updating the exchange rates manually.

With Automatic, you can set the frequency for updation in Exchange Rate Preferences: 

  • Live Update: The exchange rates are updated once every 30 minutes
  • Daily Update: The exchange rates are updated once a day at the chosen time based on your org’s timezone. 


2. Manual refresh for exchange rate in records (by permission)
If you prefer hands-on control, allow users to refresh the exchange rate of records, and grant profile access for the Refresh Exchange Rate permission. Those users can see a Refresh icon next to the exchange-rate field; clicking it pulls the latest rate from the Currencies tab. 



3. Automatic exchange rate update for records
You can now opt for automatic exchange rate updates for records, by choosing the modules and the preference based on which the exchange rate would be updated—for example, when a record is edited, when any picklist changes, or when a picklist changes to specific values. 

Let’s say your sales team closes a deal in Australia, and the deal amount is captured in AUD. Instead of relying on the exchange rate that was applied when the deal was first created, you can set the Deals module to automatically update the exchange rate when the Stage moves to Closed Won. This ensures the final deal value reflects the most recent exchange rate at the moment the deal is closed without anyone having to refresh it manually.


If needed, you can also choose broader triggers such as updating the exchange rate whenever the deal's moved to a different stage.

This ensures accurate insights for home currency in reports, analytics, forecasts, etc.

4. Exchange rate trends
Every currency gets an exchange rate history graph. This shows the exchange rate changes over time against the home currency, making it easy to understand the past rate and trends. 

You can filter with the pre-defined date based filters, or choose a custom range. We also surface Highest, Lowest, and Average for the period.


5. Currency symbol placement
Set the symbol before or after the value per currency. Your choice appears consistently across your CRM.

Points to be noted

  • Live Update runs roughly every 30 minutes.
  • These enhancements are available in the Standard, Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions.
  • The maximum time span you can observe in Exchange Rate Trends is two years.
