Spotlight 23: Connect with your attendees over photos

People love taking photos at events. A quick selfie with a speaker, exaggerated poses near fancy signage, and planned-to-the-tee candid shots—we've all either done these at events or at least seen other people do them. So why not leverage people's love for photos? Why not have a place on your event website where people can share their photos and talk about their favorite moments at the event?

Not only is this a wonderful way for attendees to connect with each other, but a public gallery with people gushing about the awesome time they had at your event would also be amazing PR for you. You can also post photos from past events here to give people an authentic peek into what they can expect at your event. Here's where the Gallery page in the event microsite comes into play. Let's take a look at how you can make the best of it.

Post photos

You can upload photos at any time before, during, and after your event. From creating some pre-event buzz to sparking nostalgia after the event, use carefully curated photos to delight and engage your attendees at all times. Event organizers can access the Gallery page from the Design tab in the Microsite Builder or by signing in directly to the event microsite. Your attendees can post photos from the event microsite.

All of you can also interact with the photos posted by either liking them or leaving comments on them. The comments section is an especially good place for attendees to start conversations and bond. You can also use Markdown here if you want to emphasize or quote something.

Moderate the gallery

By default, attendees can post photos in the gallery. However, if you'd like to have more control over the photos in the gallery, you can restrict them from uploading photos.  They’ll still be able to like and comment on photos.  You can also allow them to post photos during a set period. For example, you can get your attendees to upload photos from the event day to a week after it's over. At all other times, you'll be the only one who can upload photos.

To manage your gallery settings, click the Settings option in the left pane of the Design tab. You can also delete any of the photos or comments posted by your attendees if they're offensive or against your event's code of conduct, ensuring that your gallery is a safe place for everyone.

Do everything on the go

As you know, Backstage offers two mobile apps—one for organizers and one for attendees. Both have access to the gallery. This means you and your attendees can use your mobile device to post photos, like other people's photos, and comment on them. An added benefit of using the mobile app is that you can take photos directly from the app and upload them in seconds.
