Announcing the new SKILL.md for Zoho CRM and the updated OAS repository!

We are introducing a new zoho-crm skill to make working with Zoho CRM Developer tools (like APIs, functions, widgets, client scripts, queries etc) easier and faster, with the help of AI in your preferred AI harness like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VSCode Copilot etc. We have also updated the OAS files in our public repository with latest changes. 

Updated OAS repository 

Along with the official release of the V8 APIs, we had released OAS files in our public OAS Git repository. 
Now, the existing OAS have been migrated from JSON to YAML. We have also updated these files to include the latest API changes and enhanced descriptions, providing better guidance for working with the APIs. 
We have moved to a new directory structure optimized for LLMs and AI agents to understand and navigate the API more effectively. 

Each OAS resource now has its own folder containing: 
  1. A resource YAML file defining the resource schema and its properties.
  2. An index.md providing an overview of the resource and helping LLMs and agents understand its overall context.
  3. An operations folder with separate subfolders for each operation, making individual API operations easier for LLMs and agents to identify and retrieve. Each operation folder contains:
    1. operation.md: a compressed Markdown representation of the respective operation from the OAS, optimized for efficient LLM/agent consumption.
    2. Examples: request and response examples specific to the operation.
This structure reduces the amount of information an LLM or agent needs to process when working with a specific API operation, while making operation discovery, contextual understanding, and access to relevant request/response examples much easier.

We will be releasing new OAS files weekly for the APIs, which are already released. We are also working to support more functionalities of Zoho CRM in the v8 APIs first via this public GIT repository, while working in parallel to host the same in our public help docs.

The new zoho-crm SKILL.md 

 The zoho-crm skill acts as an orchestration layer across the following CRM developer tools: 

REST APIs 

Selects the right CRM API v8 operation, resolves parameters and OAuth scopes from the OAS, and generates the request. With MCP, it calls the API tool directly; without MCP, it generates a complete cURL request. 

Deluge Functions 

Generates and validates server-side Deluge scripts for CRM automation and custom functions. 
Note: The skill currently supports Deluge functions only. It does not yet support generating functions in Java, Node.js, or Python. 

Client Script 

Creates browser-side scripts using ZDK for record pages, list views, buttons, validation, dialogs, and other UI behavior. 

Widgets 

Builds embedded components using HTML, CSS, JS, CRM JS SDK and ZRC, including CRM data access and external API integrations. 

COQL 

Constructs and validates COQL queries for filtered, cross-module, and aggregated CRM data retrieval, including the required API endpoint and scopes. 

Queries 

Helps configure saved Queries and determines when to use Module, COQL, Zoho CRM REST APIs, External Database, or Cloud Database sources, including variable-token usage and associations. 

Connections 

Guides OAuth-based integrations with external services and generates the correct connection usage for Widget, Deluge and Client Script. 

What should you do? 

Install the zoho-crm skill:

Then, just describe your Zoho CRM use case in natural language, in your preferred AI harness like Claude Code/Codex/Cursor/Github Copilot/etc.. The skill will take it from there. 
 
For example, you can ask: 
  1. Fetch all open deals this month.
  2. In the Leads module, I want to show the Passport Number field only if the NRI field's value is Yes.
  3. If the lead's score reduces below 50, create a follow-up task to the record owner.

The zoho-crm skill in action


/zoho-crm is the command used to invoke the SKILL.md from Github Copilot in Visual Studio Code. You can also configure the skill to be invoked as a part of an Agentic flow for your use case. 
 
This demo showcases how the skill can help build a deluge function for a complex use case. When Zoho CRM MCP tools are connected, the skill can also invoke the relevant tools directly, reducing manual UI work and streamlining the development process. 

Behind the Scenes 

 The skill follows a five-step flow to turn a CRM development request into a validated solution: 
  1. Understand the goal - Identifies the Action, Entity, and Context from your request to understand what needs to happen, what CRM data is involved, and where it should run.
  2. Select the right primitive - Determines whether the task is best handled by REST API, Deluge Function, ClientScript, Widget, COQL, Query, or Connection.
  3. Load the relevant references - Loads the appropriate references and using them as the source of truth for implementation details.
  4. Generate the solution - Produces the required code, query, API request, or configuration guidance based on the selected primitive and loaded references.
  5. Validate the output - Checks the solution against CRM syntax, parameters, scopes, constraints, and known implementation gotchas before presenting it.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind 

The zoho-crm skill is designed to accelerate development, not replace developer review. As you work with it, 

  1. Review and test generated solutions before using them in production.
  2. The first generated output may occasionally need a few iterations to reach the desired implementation. Refine the request and provide feedback to help the skill improve the solution.
  3. For organization-specific configurations, ensure to provide the relevant details in your request so the skill can tailor the solution to your setup.
  4. For integrations with other Zoho products and third-party applications, provide required details about the product and its relevant help documentation wherever possible to help the skill provide more accurate responses. 
We can't wait for you to try this new zoho-crm skill and updated OAS files, put them to work with your CRM cases. We will continue refining the skill and keeping the OAS up-to-date alongside the new CRM capabilities and improvements.
