What's changed and what's deprecated in Zoho Campaigns 3.0

Zoho CampaignsMigration

Zoho Campaigns 3.0 is our latest build, designed to help you create campaigns faster and manage them with confidence. Most modules work differently and some features are no longer available. This guide covers both, module by module.

Anything not listed here is migrated in full and needs no attention. For the steps to migrate, see prerequisites for migrating to Zoho Campaigns 3.0.

What's changed

These are the features that work differently in Zoho Campaigns 3.0, module by module. Everything here is still available, just in a new place or with new behavior.

For a full look at what's new and what's improved in Zoho Campaigns 3.0, see what's new in Zoho Campaigns 3.0.

Contacts

Contact tags: Moved into each contact's individual details page, where tags are managed and assigned directly.

The tags can also be managed from More options on the Contacts page, under Manage Tags based on the role's privileges.

Manage Topics: Moved to Settings, under Contacts and Customization.

Segments: Segments that have been inactive for more than 120 days are paused after migration. A paused segment cannot be used in a campaign until it is reactivated, so check the segment list early and reactivate the ones you still need in 3.0.

Campaign Activity scores under Contacts -> Contact Scoring are now under Channel Based Scoring in Settings -> Contacts and Customization. Refer to this document.

Field-based scoring has been renamed to Fit score and is migrated automatically.

It can be found in the contacts’ individual detail page and the rules can be configured in Fit Score in Settings -> Contacts and Customization -> Contact Scoring.

The full score on each contact is migrated. Contacts keep the number they have today rather than starting at zero. Use Decay score in 3.0, to keep the score honest as a measure of current interest rather than lifetime history.

Email campaigns

Zoho Campaigns 3.0 has two campaign types: Regular and RSS. Everything that used to need its own campaign type is now handled inside a Regular Campaign, so the type no longer has to be chosen up front and several capabilities can be combined in one campaign.

A/B Testing: A capability rather than a type. Enable or disable it inside a Regular Campaign, with variations on sender address, subject, or content.

Survey, Webinar, and Event: Merge tags added to a Regular Campaign as a CTA, a hyperlink, or other supported content.

The merge tags appear only when the respective integration is enabled, so Survey merge tags need Zoho Survey or SurveyMonkey connected, Webinar merge tags need Zoho Meeting or GoToWebinar, and Event merge tags need Zoho Backstage or Eventbrite. A single campaign can carry all three.

Zoho Forms: A link added to the email content as a CTA or hyperlink, rather than a campaign type of its own.

Ecommerce: A set of email template editor components. See Ecommerce below.

Finding these campaigns: Filter on the Survey component, for example, and you get every campaign that contains a survey, which is more reliable than remembering how each one was created.

Campaign-Specific scoring is not migrated. Configure it again in 3.0 through Response Actions, set while configuring a campaign.

Header and footer configuration: In Zoho Campaigns 3.0, headers and footers move into the email template editor as elements. Existing headers and footers are migrated and are available as bookmarks.

Headers and footers can also be created and saved in the template builder. Add a Header or Footer element from Add Element, select the section, and use the star icon to bookmark it. Give it a name and a category such as Headers or Footers, then select Save. Saved blocks appear under Gallery, in My Saved, and can be reused in as many campaigns as needed.

Plain text content and imported or uploaded content are handled in the campaign configuration instead, where the header and footer are selected for each.

Map to topic: The map to topic checkbox on the campaign configuration page behaves differently. In the current version it maps only contacts that have no topic at all. In Zoho Campaigns 3.0 it maps every contact that is not already in the selected topic, including contacts that already belong to other topics.

ALERT
This widens who gets mapped. A contact who deliberately belongs to a different topic will now be added to the selected topic as well, so check the topic selection before sending.

Workflows

Workflows built in the current version are migrated into the Zoho Campaigns 3.0 Workflow builder. Conditional Workflows of the Activity-based type are also migrated as 3.0 Workflows.

The remaining automation types are deprecated and open in the older version instead. See Workflows and automation.

To rebuild any of them as a 3.0 Workflow, see workflow equivalents in Zoho Campaigns 3.0, which maps each component and automation type to its closest match in the new builder.

Ecommerce

The Ecommerce tab is removed. The functionality is not gone, it surfaces contextually in the modules where it is used:

  • Email campaigns: The email editor carries Product and Product Recommendation components, available when a supported commerce integration is enabled. Shopify, WooCommerce, and Zoho Commerce are supported.
  • Analytics: Email reports using those components are reflected in Analytics.
  • Segments: Ecommerce fields become available for use in segments once the integration is in place.
  • Workflows: Abandoned cart and Purchase follow-up trigger components are available.

Settings

Imprint details: Moved to Organization Settings as additional fields, editable and deletable under General, Organization. See Additional Fields in Zoho Campaigns 3.0.

What's deprecated

Each item below is marked with one of three statuses:

  • Deprecated: No longer available in Zoho Campaigns 3.0. Past data is migrated.
  • Deprecated, past data not migrated: No longer available, and nothing is migrated.
  • Partially migrated: Some of it is migrated and some is not.

Deprecated - Past data migrated

Contact Scoring - Custom Rules

Deprecated

Custom Rules are deprecated in 3.0, so record your current configuration before migrating. See Contact Scoring. You can build similar rules in Channel Based Scoring.

Archive campaigns

Deprecated

New archive campaigns cannot be created. Existing archive code keeps running, so a public archive already embedded on a site continues to work.

Campaign types that no longer exist

Deprecated

The following were separate campaign types in the current version and are not types in Zoho Campaigns 3.0: Zoho Meeting, GoToWebinar, Eventbrite, SurveyMonkey, Zoho Survey, Zoho Backstage, Ecommerce, Zoho Forms, and Child campaigns.

Past campaigns of these types are migrated and listed as Regular campaigns. Find them using the filter for the component each one used. while advanced campaigns can be excluded using the component filter, other components such as poll, attachment, or dynamic settings will not be available in the filter criteria. For how the same outcomes are achieved in 3.0, see Email campaigns.

Dormant campaigns

Deprecated

Existing dormant campaigns are migrated as Regular campaigns. New ones cannot be created.

Classic Workflows, autoresponders, and Conditional Workflows

Deprecated

Three automation types are deprecated: Classic Workflows, which are the legacy Workflows created before 2021; autoresponders, covering all seven types; and Conditional Workflows of the Instant and Time-based types. Activity-based Conditional Workflows are not in this group and are migrated as 3.0 Workflows.

All three are brought into Zoho Campaigns 3.0 and appear under their respective tabs within Workflows. Selecting one opens it in the older version in a new tab, where it stays editable. They cannot be cloned, and new ones of these types cannot be created.

Existing Autoresponders or Classic Workflow can be built with behavioral changes as a 3.0 Workflow. See workflow equivalents in Zoho Campaigns 3.0 for the closest match to each component and automation type.

Contact webhooks and campaign webhooks

Deprecated

Both are still shown after migration, listed under Settings, then Integrations, then Webhooks, and tagged Old Version next to the date they were created and who created them. They keep working.

Two things differ when one of these is recreated in Zoho Campaigns 3.0:

  • Scope: A contact webhook from the older version is invoked only when it is associated with a mailing list. A webhook created in 3.0 is invoked at the organization level, so the receiving endpoint gets a wider set of events.
  • Where the data arrives: The equivalent webhook in 3.0 sends the data in the request payload or body rather than as a query parameter, so the external app or system has to read the body instead.
WARNING
A webhook recreated in Zoho Campaigns 3.0 will not behave like the one it replaces. Make both changes on the receiving side before switching over, or the endpoint will miss the data and get more events than it expects.

See How to configure webhooks.

GET as a webhook request method

Deprecated

A webhook already set to GET is migrated and keeps working, listed as Active with GET in the Request Method column. GET is not available when creating a new webhook, so the supported methods going forward are POST, PUT, and DELETE.

Deprecated, past data not migrated

Google Analytics

Deprecated, past data not migrated

The Google Analytics integration is not available in Zoho Campaigns 3.0. Campaign traffic is tracked with UTM parameters instead. See UTM parameters in Zoho Campaigns.

Office 365, PayPal, and Google Contacts

Deprecated, past data not migrated

These three integrations do not exist in Zoho Campaigns 3.0 and nothing replaces them. Export whatever you need from the source app before migrating.

ALERT
Once the organization has switched to 3.0, the connection is gone, along with any data that was still held only in the source app. There is no way to pull it afterward.

Custom syncs

Deprecated, past data not migrated

All other data sync is migrated, but a sync built on a custom view in a connected app is not, and the configuration is not readable afterward. Note what each one pulls before migrating, then rebuild it using the Import from Custom View option or a segment.

Partially migrated

Bulk segments

Partially migrated

New bulk segments cannot be created in Zoho Campaigns 3.0. Existing ones are migrated with the parent condition only. Child conditions are not migrated, so a migrated bulk segment returns more contacts than it used to.

For example: A bulk segment named Bulk Segment is based on the field Country, with Additional Criteria of Company Name is Zylker. In 2.0, that produces one child segment per country value, each filtered to Zylker.

After migration it becomes a single segment with two criteria groups:

  • Group 1: Country isn't empty
  • Group 2: Company Name is equal to any of Zylker
  • Criteria pattern: G1 AND G2

The Additional Criteria are migrated intact as Group 2. What is lost is the per-value split. Instead of one segment for each country, there is now one segment covering every contact that has a country at all, which is why it reaches a wider audience.

To narrow it back down, exclude the values you do not want at send time. While configuring the campaign, choose the Bulk Segment as recipients and open Exclude Contacts. Select the Advanced tab, and build:

  • Group 1: Country is not equal to any of Sri Lanka

That removes the contacts in Bulk Segment whose country is Sri Lanka, leaving the rest of the segment as the audience.

Some contact fields are also deprecated, and bulk segments built on them are affected further:

  • List added time
  • Opt in type
  • Consent status
  • Last sent on
  • Average amount spent

A bulk segment whose parent condition uses one of these fields is not migrated at all. Workflows that use these fields are paused after migration and need your attention before they can run again.

See Segments in Zoho Campaigns.

Coupon campaigns

Partially migrated

There is no Coupon Campaign creation flow in Zoho Campaigns 3.0 and no equivalent campaign type.

Sent campaigns are migrated and listed in the list view. Drafts are not migrated, so save their content before migrating. A migrated coupon campaign can be cloned, and the clone is created as a Regular campaign where the content and campaign details can be edited, but with no option to configure coupons.

Form campaigns

Partially migrated

Sent campaigns are migrated as Regular campaigns. Drafts are not migrated. The forms-embedded configuration does not carry over and has to be set up again.

Template Editor - ICS component

Partially migrated

Drafts containing the ICS component are migrated and the content can be edited. The component itself cannot be edited, and it cannot be copied manually. The draft can be cloned.

No new email campaign can be created with this component. To include a calendar invite in a new campaign, add the ICS file to the email as a file attachment.
