GDPR settings - Online Help | Zoho Campaigns

Enable GDPR settings

This feature is available for Zoho Campaigns accounts migrated to the new version of Topic management.

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)  is an effective legal regulation for all residents of the European Union (EU) since May 2018.

GDPR will affect every email marketer with contacts in the EU. This law addresses the exportation of individual and personal data for EU residents. According to the GDPR and EU privacy regulations, it is preferred that email marketers send emails to double opt-in contacts and contacts who are interested in receiving marketing emails. Non-compliance with GDPR can lead to huge fines.

Zoho Campaigns strongly recommend that our customers send permission-based marketing emails and newsletters to their subscribers. It is best to remove any old (unresponsive for up to three months) contacts from their mailing lists and send re-engagement emails.

To comply with GDPR:
  1. Click Settings icon on the top-right corner of the screen.

Note:
If you opt to comply with GDPR, then you have to provide the lawful basis for communication whenever you import contacts into Zoho Campaigns.

What happens after you enable GDPR?

After you enable the GDPR settings for your Zoho Campaigns organization, below functionalities also get enabled:
  1. Lawful basis for communication: When you choose topics during contact creation, a new field called Lawful basis for communication appears under which you can choose the type. The options provided in this field are based on the lawful bases for communication as stated in the Article 6 of GDPR: Lawfulness of processing.
  2. Right to Access: The Right to Access option will appear for your contacts after GDPR is enabled. This option will send an email to the contact asking them to update their information.
  3. Right to be Forgotten: The Right to be Forgotten option will appear for your contacts as well. This is an important option because it deals with the erasure of your contacts' data upon their request from your Zoho Campaigns organization.
  4. Erase my data: When your contacts unsubscribe from your email campaigns, they can choose to erase their data after GDPR is enabled. Navigate to Settings -> Customization -> Signup Pages and Emails -> under the Unsubscribe section, click the Confirmation Page option. Here, you can view the "Erase my data" checkbox which allows your contacts to erase their data from your Zoho Campaigns organization.
