Manage custom layout

1. What Does This Page Cover?

Learn how to name, rename, edit, and perform other customizations on the custom layouts you have designed for the detailed view of your records using the Canvas layout builder. 
Before moving ahead, you can learn more about canvas layout builder and its wide range of customization options.

2. Availability

  1. This help page is for users in Creator 5 and 6. Know your Creator version.
  2. Canvas can be accessed in both free and paid plans of Creator, and is available across all the data centers.
  3. Only the super admin, admins, and developers can design custom layouts using Canvas, while other users can access and view them with relevant permissions.
  4. Canvas is supported only for web browsers i.e., you can design custom layouts for record detail view in web browsers.

3. Name a custom layout

  1. Navigate to the Design page of the report.
  2. Select the Detail View tab.
  3. Click the required layout card beneath the Custom Layout section if you have already created one. Click here to learn how to create and customize a custom layout.
  4. Enter the layout name at the top and click Save.

4. Edit a custom layout

  1. Navigate to the Design page of the report.
  2. Select the Detail View tab.
  3. Click the required layout card beneath the Custom Layout section to edit that layout.

5. Define field properties

  1. Drag and drop a field (form or system) from the menu on the left in the Data module.
  2. Click the field label or its value. In the Style module on the left, click the Properties tab.
  3. Set the required Display properties for the fields. These properties vary depending on the field types.

  4. Click Save and close the template.

Let's assume that you have created a Leads Management application. In this application, you want the records in the Deal Details report to be differentiated based on their "deal status". For example, you want the deals won to be highlighted in green and the deals lost to be highlighted in red. You can use the conditional formatting feature to achieve this visual differentiation by following the below steps.
  1. Drag and drop a field (form or system) from the menu on the left in the Data module.
  2. Click the field label or its value. In the Style module on the left, click the Conditional Formatting tab.

  3. Click Configure. The formatting window will appear.
  4. Choose a custom template or select a predefined template.
  5. Choose the formatting and specify criteria for the condition.

  6. Enter Name.
  7. Click Save.

7. To delete element from layout

  1. Select the element that needs to be removed.
  2. You can either press the Delete button on your keyboard, or right-click the field and click Delete.

If you want to download and send your custom layouts as an email attachment or share it across your colleagues, you can export them by following the below steps.
  1. Navigate to the Design tab.
  2. Select the Detail View tab.
  3. Click the required layout card beneath the Custom Layout section. The custom layout builder will open.
  4. Click the upload icon at the top right to export your custom layout. The layout will be exported in .json format.

9. Setting canvas layout as default

In reports, you can set the default detail view layout as either the predefined layout or from the custom layouts designed using the Canvas layout builder. To make your customized canvas layout as default for the detail view of a record:
  1. Navigate to the Design page of the report.
  2. Select the Detail View tab.
  3. Click the required custom layout. 

  4. Make any changes if required, then save the layout. It will be set as the default detail view for your records.
