Backup application before an update

Requirement

Perform a one time backup of a Zoho Creator application.

Use case

Let's assume an employee management application needs to be enhanced with a new feature to streamline the attendance system. Before we edit the application, the company would like to back up their application and data as a precautionary measure. Zoho Creator's backup feature can help with this.

Steps to follow

1. Install the Employee Management gallery application.


 
2. Add a few sample data to the application and let's proceed to backup.

3. Under Operations, select Backup and click Create New button. 



4. Create a one-time backup with the following details.


 
5. The created backup will be stored under Backup tab.

Points to note

  1. The backup we created in this tutorial will be automatically deleted after 1 month as configured. You can also force-delete the backup when required. To do so, hover over the required backup and click on the horizontal ellipsis icon (three dots). Delete, Restore, and Download options will be available. 

  2. Downloading a backup will be stored in your local disk in a .zip file format. It will include the Deluge script file and a set of .csv files containing the application data. You can create a new application by importing this Deluge script file and you can use other files to import the data.
  3. Restoring a backup will create a new application with the backed-up version.
  4. You can also schedule periodic backups to run at a specified intervals.
