How to choose the right field type?

Zoho Forms provides you with a variety of form fields to get data from your respondents. Knowing which field to use is crucial to obtain the right data.

If you want to get a short amount of text from your respondents, such as name, company name, etc., you can use the Single Line field, which can take up to 255 characters as input.

If you are looking to collect a large amount of text from your respondents, like description, comments, feedback, etc., use the Multi Line field.

To collect a numeric value (without a decimal point), such as age, quantity, number of people, etc., use the Number field. If you wish to accept numeric values with decimal places, such as scores, use the Decimal field.

If you are looking to collect a date or time from your respondents, like their date of birth, date and time of arrival, etc., you can use the Date, Time, or Date-Time fields.

We also have dedicated fields for name, address, phone number, email address, website, and currency.

How to decide which choice-based field to use?

When you want your respondents to choose an option from a long list of choices, such as a list of countries, you can save the space on your form using a Dropdown field.

If you want your respondents to choose an option from a few options, like Yes or No, use the Radio field.

If you want to let your respondents choose more than one option from the list of choices, use the Checkbox or Multiple Choice fields.

Looking to learn about your customer experience or conduct a satisfaction survey? Choose the Matrix Choice field as a way to ask several questions!

Let your users upload necessary files and images, like resumes, photos, screenshots, etc., using the File Upload and Image Upload fields.

Generate unique identification numbers for each form entry using the Unique ID field that helps identify individual submissions. This field is great when it comes to keeping track of your orders. It remains invisible to the customers when they’re filling out the form, but when they hit “submit,” you receive a unique reference number for the form submission along with the information that the customer filled out.
